Girl Crush: Zoe Kravitz

Daughter of  Lenny she was born on December first and she's an actress. She's also recently become the new face of Vera Wang Princess perfume, you might have seen her on le tele? I love her bohemian style and she's obviously inherited her dad's hotness: she's adorable♥

It's Such A Perfect Day..

You wake in your own bedroom, in your own bed, with that beautiful dimmed light you get in the mornings. Let's say that you have a completely free day: no school/college/uni work, no people to see, nothing to deal with. And you get that warm half asleep feeling of knowing you can lie in.

You wake up naturally and instantly know it's time to get out of bed. We're going to France, to un petit cafe, now for breakfast.

You spend the next few hours,  (back in Blighty) in your pyjamas, with an unputdownable book in a big, old country house, by a roaring fire of course ;)

Lunch on the beach in Spain. Paella, lots of vino and good company.

We're going to New York in the afternoon for shopping and coffee with your best friend.

Back to your house for a lovely, long, hot bath with that book again and a glass of wine.

There is nothing more fun than getting ready for a night out with your girls.

Dinner in Paris with, hmm lets say Gaspard Ulliel, and then on to watch a Bloody Social gig back in NYC.

And of course then Jamie Burke (above right) takes you to an all night jamming session at Milk Studios.
And thus ends the most perfect day in the history of days.
Thank you and goodnight.

Miss Sixty

Whenever I'm asked the question, "If you had the choice which era would you choose to be born in?" (and I get asked that surprisingly alot...!) I always say, "the 40's so i could have been a teenager in the 60's" Everything about that decade appeals to me. The music, the fashion, the people, the art, l'attitude!  My look and style today really borrows influence from the fashion savvy people of that time. Here's a few of my favourites ;)

Penelope Tree

 "an Egyptian Jiminy Cricket"-David Bailey

She was captivating and her appeal came from her bizarre features and gamine physique. She was odd and irresistable to the likes of legendary photographer David Bailey who described her very aptly above. I adore Penelope's poker straight hair and waif like figure. To me she seems alien, not human born, elven perhaps.

Jean Shrimpton

The ultimate sex kitten. She's extremely pretty and her little shapely figure exudes sensuality don't you think?

Jimi Hendrix

A beautiful soul. A beautiful human being.  And the man had style. Nobody pulls off the Military Jacket quite like Jimi. And his bling, oh my. Not to mention his exquisite choice of hat.

Jane Birkin

Naturally adorable with a streak of naughtiness. She was always getting her kit off. So rock n roll and just effortlessly glamourous. Also check out the over the knee socks she's sporting below, I must get my hands on a pair.

That's all I've got time for but I will add to this soon! Gosh theres just so many beautiful people.

if you're looking for a good film.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to share with you today my very favourite films. That is all.

Quadrophenia
"We are, we are we are the mods."
A gritty insight into London in the swinging 60's and the street fights between the Mods and the Rockers. My dad was a Mod (he had a scooter and everything hah) who used to participate frequently back in the day and has informed me that the film is very real to how it was.

Withnail and I
"We want the finest wines available to humanity. And we want them here, and we want them now!"
Join two out of work actors as they tire of life in their grubby, drug den, Camden flat and decide to spend the weekend in the countryside. Depicts the sad, sad end of the 60's. Probably the best film you will ever see.

The Lost Boys
"One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach, all the damn vampires."
Seriously hot, sexy, teenage Vampire boys. I love it so much I named my band after it.

Factory Girl
"To me, New York was Jackson Pollock sippingvodka and dripping paint onto a raw canvas."
Another glimpse into the 60's, im a little obsessed with that era you see, however this is the 60's over the pond in the U. S. of A. It revolves around the Warhol art scene and The Factory. A film about the tragedy of too much sex, drugs and rock n roll.

The Blues Brothers
"We're on a mission from God"
Two blues musician brothers set out on a mission to save the nun's orphanage where they grew up by putting on a sell out blues gig with their old band. Starring John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd aswell as James Brown (!) Ray Charles (!) Aretha Franklin (!) Booker T and The MG's (!) Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia herself!) John Candy (!) TWIGGY!! Steven Spielberg (!) It's increds.

The Labryinth
"Everything I've done, I've done for you. I move the stars for no one."
DAVID BOWIE STARS AS A GOBLIN KING. Reason enough to watch it in my opinion.

Halloween

Halloween is officialy over for another year and I, for one, am a little gutted. I didn't realise that I loved it until about 4 hours ago when i was getting ready for a party in the name of aforementioned festivity. Me and Halloween bonded this afternoon. And as promised I sported a mask. Just call me La Zorra from now on folks.

Muah♥

The Trials and Tribulations of Overpacking.

Im packing for London. I'm going for a week to see friends and things.  It's really difficult! (the packing) I have a habit of packing completely useless things (such as a 500 page pad of blank paper "just in case" I feel like writing something) aswell as about 5 books of which I'll probably read a few chapters of one. And my case thingy is getting heavier and heavier which is BAD because I have lots of travelling to do! And I know just what it's like to have a too heavy case.  I went youth hostelling with Mia this summer and we majorly over packed, so much so, infact, that on the way to our hostel my bag split :O! We were walking along when we heard this huge BANG from behind us. On spinning round I stood looking at the entire contents of my rucksack splayed over the pretty cobbled streets of Dinan. And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. Various items of sexy underwear being a highlight.  The whole episode actually happened at a very conveniant moment as we had been toting our HUGE rucksacks all over the town (searching in vain for the most impossibly difficult hostel to locate in france) and were proper stressed out and irritable. After staring in abject shock for a couple of seconds I sank to the floor in hysterics unable to do anything other than cry with laughter and Mia soon joined me though she did make a good attempt at gathering my belongings, it must be said.  It was a very busy street, may I add, with beacoup de tourists and locals walking by shouting at us in french: none of which we understood of course. So this made the whole thing funnier. You know those times in life where you just CANNOT stop laughing? it was one of those times. Even thinking back on it is making me giggle. And it happened again on the way back to England! I kid you not. And on the top of a boat! We heard the same BANG and before i turned I knew what had happened and of course the laughter started again. Though this time we had to launch ourselves at my belongings as we were on deck and it was seriously windy. Suffice to say i KNOW the dangers of overpacking and yet I can't seem to stop :S. Here is a picture of Mia not being able to breathe when my naughty rucksack broke the first time:

Moral of the story: remove at least 2 pairs of shoes from my bag AND ensure my underwear is in the side pockets and so unlikely to be seen by anybody except those specially selected...
;)

Masked

Oh the mystery, the allure, the naughtiness that is a masked lady. I find the whole concept of a mask fascinating. You could be anybody. Doesn't that thrill you?!  Halloween soon ;)

Friday 23 October 2009

David made my day.

I'm listening to: Kid British-Our House

Drinking: Tea

Ok so me and two of my "very best bestest" friends have a friday afternoon ritual of going to Costa. Kind of a celebration that the week's over and a major catch up session because we don't see each other as often as we'd like to these days, what with all doing different classes at college and things. Today, being friday, was one of those very afternoons! Some quite exciting stuff happened today though which I deem blog worthy ;)

So in we go and, as always, start panicking as to what we're going to order, then preparing ourselves to say embarrassing words like 'frescato' and 'macchiato' which only sound good if you're American when Mia (aforementioned bffl hah) starts hissing at me. She starts tugging my arm and hisses excitedly "That guy's over there, you know DAvid... DAvid...Blaine, yeah Blaine" Quite obviously at this point I almost have a heart attack imagining that I'm soon going to meet Blaine and he'll levitate me or some such thing. Mia proceeds to point to where he supposedly is sat and what I see instead is a couple sat by the window. An oldish looking guy and a very tall, thin lady next to him who looks as though she was once a total beauty. And then I realise who it is. NOt David Blaine but an altogther much more interesting David. The couple are infact...David Bailey, yes you read right BAILEY the legendary photographer and one of my all time heroes and his wife the lovely ex-model Catherine Dyer. Now if you've never heard of Bailey I suggest, no I insist, you get yourself onto Wikipedia immediately and read up on him. He's a genius. He was in London in the swinging 60's photographing the likes of Marianne Faithful, The Stone's, Jean Shrimptom... the list goes on. His work is incredible. He lives in the same area as me so it wasn't, you know, a huge shock to see him, but I was excited none the less. I laughed alot on realising Mia's mistaken identity though.

Naturally, as soon as I'd collected and paid for my tea (at the last minute i couldn't bring my self to say any long scary sounding luxury coffee names) and the girls had their various comestables, we chose a table directly next to David and his wife. They left about 5 minutes later and, I'm horribly embarrassed to admit, for a minute I was highly tempted to steal David's straw :O just as a relic of a legend you know?!!!!!! After all he is an all time hero of mine!!!!!!!!!!! But the temptation only lasted about a minute... and a half. Maybe two minutes. But I never took it as I thought that maybe that was going just a little bit too far. What was I going to do with it afterall?! Mount it on my bedroom wall or something?! no.... OF COURSE NOT... >:)

Here's David himself:

and heres one of my favourite shots of his (Jane Birkin!):

Dr Martens♥

Every girl should own at least ONE pair of Dm's. This is a fact of life! Like death and taxes.

So recently I visited the original Dr Martens shop in Camden. I was in my very own version of heaven though the guy who worked in the shop was terrifying. Before we'd even had time to take in the floor to ceiling displays he barked at us, and I quote, "think you know a shop with more styles of Dm's in it? You tell me where? Bring it on. It's BULLSHIT this is the largest stockist in the world!!!!!! " I almost ran straight back out but don't let him deter you if you ever happen upon the place, after reassuring him his shop was, "the best Dm shop i've ever been to" (I didn't mention that it was the only one I'd ever been to...) he was pleasant enough >:) So yes... as I was saying:

Out there somewhere is a COLOUR and a STYLE to suit you. I swear this!

Reasons to own a pair:

1. Empowerment! When I wear my dm's I feel hard. ahaah They make me want to kick things.

2. They look fucking amazing.

and if this wasn't enough....

3. Daisy Lowe is the face of DM's!!!!!!!!!! Look see>>

*Tips

I always wear mine with a floral, pretty dress. A tea dress perhaps or a cute vintage number. Always something a bit floaty and femenine anyway. And one must ALWAYS wear one's leather jacket. I'll get some pics up of my Dm outfits soon I promise.
